POSITION PURPOSE:

Assist in the achievement of Lexington’s business objectives by providing functional Human Resource leadership; develop, recommend, communicate, implement, and audit sound human resource plans and programs as a generalist consistent with established company, sector, and facility philosophies.  Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws.

KEY CUSTOMERS:

Primary customers of this position include the Facility Manager, team leaders, exempt and non-exempt resources and all hourly employees. External customers include community service groups, human resource leaders at other locations, government officials and agencies at the state and federal level requiring compliance information.

CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS:

Counseling management on personnel issues, policies, practices and regulations

The development and coordination of programs and services that are timely and respond to identified needs and support the achievement of business goals

The administration of health and safety programs, labor agreements, employee benefits, affirmative action plans, recruiting and employee training

SCOPE:

The position focuses on assisting the Lexington Mill achieve business goals through constant improvement in employee safety, health, knowledge, skill proficiency, selection, placement and timeliness of administrative support.  Challenges include:  1) maintaining current knowledge in areas of functional expertise,  2) influencing unit leaders and other employees using only the authority of knowledge,  3) enabling leaders to act independently in support of the development and performance of their employees, and 4) being sensitive to the potential overlap with the charters of other staff functions.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Human Resources/Employee Relations

Provide plant leadership and coordination toward achievement of organizational and human resource development.

Develop and implement an effective employee relations programs

Direct the recruiting and procurement of new employees to staff the mill on a timely basis and develop appropriate affirmative action programs.

Provide leadership to ensure the organization attracts, develops and retains the best people and fosters an environment which motivates a diverse team to fully use its capabilities in achieving desired business results.

Engage in frank and timely dialogue with Human Resources staff to provide:  criteria-based assessments of their job performance and their career growth potential; opportunities for development; and recognition of their successes.

Develop and maintain high levels of quality awareness that will ensure conformance to specifications of all Human Resource Systems.

Internal Controls

Ensure the effective application of internal control systems and procedures applicable to the functional areas of responsibility by providing management direction and support.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of functional expertise and five to seven years of related industrial experience.  Successful functioning requires that credibility be established and maintained with assigned client business unit personnel.  Sizable functional/technical knowledge and skills are required relating broadly to the range of human resource services.

The incumbent must possess considerable management/leadership experience in employee relations. The ability to communicate with and motivate people, to maintain self-control and respect at all times and to foster mutual trust and confidence through fair and impartial dealings with all employees is essential. Interpersonal skills, personal and organizational sensitivity are traits required for this position.
