Job Description

Position Purpose:

Partners in the development and deployment of Kimberly-Clark North America communications strategies to inform, engage and persuade key internal and external stakeholders.  Reporting directly to the Director of Communications for Kimberly-Clark North America, he/she will influence key leaders in support of the business strategy, empower leaders to accelerate employee engagement, and enhance the company’s reputation as an employer of choice.

 

Customers and Customer Expectations:

Key customers for this position are: Director of Communications; Global Communications Vice President; North America Group President and their direct reports; senior leaders; key staff; other key customers and Global Communications team members. These customers expect aligned and sound communications strategy, counsel and advice, and exceptional tactical execution.

Scope/Organizational Relationships:

He/she works to lead, develop, provide input and implement communications strategies in support of the business strategy and the Kimberly-Clark enterprise.

  • Engages key stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Develops messaging to drive alignment around strategy and its key priorities
  • Drives business transformation agendas, and
  • Strengthens the One K-C Culture

He/she must exercise considerable discretion with regard to information communicated and is expected to handle serious and sensitive subjects with tact, excellent judgment and confidentiality. He/she will encounter a variety of complex problems in the role, and therefore must be able to manage expectations of key stakeholders who have conflicting inputs and differing needs, and deliver effective communications.

Principal Accountabilities:

Communications Strategy

  • Develops strategy and deploys communication plans that include message development, stakeholder engagement, tactical execution and measurement to achieve objectives
  • Partners with the North America sector businesses to develop and deploy effective internal communications that align to the K-C way of communicating and reinforces connection to the Kimberly-Clark North America strategy
  • Provides strategic communications counsel and counsel to leaders
  • Leverages communications skills, knowledge and experience to advise Director of Communications’ decision-making

Reputational Brand Management

  • Oversees all North America brand PR activities and amplifies opportunities where possible. Partners with Global Communications External Relations team, external brand PR agencies and Senior Brand Managers
  • Supports Director of Communications in mitigating brand and business issues and managing crisis

Communications Infrastructure

  • Develops content for global and North America communications tools and channels, including but not limited to campaigns, business quarterly updates, intranet, press releases and social media
  • Provides research, writing, editing and proofreading capabilities

People/Relationship Management

  • Actively coaches and develops talent on the Global and North America communications team
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders to identify communications opportunities, and foster collaboration and mutual support

Basic Qualification

This position requires 10+ years corporate communications experience and 5+ years corporate media relations and brand PR experience. Knowledge and understanding of social media. The incumbent has a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

Summary

This position acts as the primary point of contact between the assigned brand team(s) and the channel strategy/customer teams. Scope:

The incumbent supports the assigned brands/categories through the following processes: Product Innovation and Renovation, Annual Business Planning, Sales/Field Communication and Meetings, Score carding, and Allocation. The incumbent serves as the Front End subject matter expert for their brand/category.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Work with data and multi-functional team to synthesize and interpret information/data to develop insights providing new perspective on the retail environment including identifying risks and opportunities associated with sales fundamentals, namely Distribution, Pricing, Shelving and Merchandising
  • Identify emerging trends and identify business implications and proactively recommend solutions
  • Serve as the “Voice of the Customer”, generating implications and hypotheses that can further K-C business objectives and assist in identifying opportunities and strategy development.
  • Benchmark with other CPG companies to identify Best Practices in the area of Go-to-Market processes and strategies to enable KC to rapidly enhance its capabilities in this area.
  • Ensure retail/customer insights are developed and leveraged by participating in the development, approval, and execution of Learning Plans
  • Act as the primary “Voice of Customer” in the Innovation Management Framework (IMF) process specifically and in initiative development in general with specific accountability for ensuring Back End and Front End alignment around the assigned Brand’s DPSM strategies and deliverables.   • Coordinate, develop and clearly communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for sales fundamentals: Distribution, Pricing, Shelving and Merchandising (DPSM) for assigned Brands in general and for specific Brand GTM initiatives.
  • Assist in development of customer/channel strategies and plans (3-year customer strategic plans, Annual Operating Plans (AOP), current year plans) as needed by Channel Business Development in order to meet or exceed assigned Brand’s objectives (i.e. market share, net sales and contribution).

Strategy/Plan Development and Execution

  • Develop and distribute clear, concise and compelling communication of brand strategies, plans and initiatives as well as associated Front End deliverables to customer teams. Deliver actionable information in a timely manner in a readily accessible fashion for assigned Brand(s).
  • Act as the “Voice of Customer” throughout the IMP/brand building process, championing and developing customer integration into appropriate assigned Brand initiatives.
  • Coordinates and assist development of assigned Brand Plan communication for Annual Operating Plan kickoff meetings to Channel Development teams and customer teams.
  • Responsible for proactive plans for allocation, production breaks, customer service and inventory strategy on assigned Brand(s).
  • Tracks against DPSM IMF commitments and develops, recommends and executes resulting mid-course corrective action.
  • Facilitator and “Go-To” contact for the Channel Development teams when brand approval needed outside of guardrails (e.g. funding needs greater than trade budget, SKU beyond budget, financial hurdle not met, etc)

Basic/Preferred Qualifications/Education/Experience Required:

  • Graduate degree (preferred) or undergraduate degree with equivalent work experience

Deliver sustained and profitable growth of the Hand Hygiene and Tissue categories ($1.05B).  This will be done with strategic direction of marketing programs focused on an assigned group of target markets and driven through our transformational, collaborating, developing and core channel partners.  Role will lead leader of all facets within marketing and innovation for the health and wellness business.

Key Accountabilities and Business Priorities

Target Market strategy & activation

  • Accountable for sustained and profitable  growth from an assigned group of target markets
  • Identification of strategic target & prime prospects for best return in target market for relevant platforms.
  • Development of appropriate end user and channel marketing strategies
  • Creation & deployment of  compelling customer value propositions that result in a rich & sustained sales opportunity pipeline

Platform and Product development/innovation

  • Accountable for successful market commercialization of platforms in assigned  target markets
  • Evaluate and influence global platform innovation pipeline and drive North American execution  that regularly raises the bar in standards of solution delivery
  • Establishing a North American product innovation pipeline from Global Target Market Team and North American Team that regularly raises the bar in standards of solution delivery
  • Collaboration with  global platform leaders and regional peers on strategy, and global business planning
  • Deliver timely, innovative and cost effective solutions against agreed business needs which deliver growth, market share and profit objectives in both the short and long term

Resourcing

  • Accountable for resourcing  plan (people, research and A & P budgets) for assigned category, target markets and platforms to maximize results
  • Identify marketing capability gaps and talent building required for platforms to succeed in assigned target markets

Develop and Drive the strategic product plan

  • Develop product strategy for profitable growth in differentiated products
  • Collaborate broadly and cross functionally (e.g. R&E, manufacturing, sales, finance, business support and KCFC organization) to define optimal business strategy
  • Drive new product launches and lead product renovation  meeting customer needs
  • Drive Life Cycle Maximization activities to contribute to delivering customer needs

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to drive innovation initiatives for the Kotex brand, and to lead or contribute to the brand strategy work.

Responsibilities:
•Play a lead role in driving the innovation plan for the Kotex Brand
