We are seeking a Patent Paralegal to join our Intellectual Property Center of Excellence (IP CoE) in our Legal Department in our offices in Neenah, Wisconsin or Roswell, GA.

This role will assist attorneys and other legal team members as part of the patent team of the IP CoE to develop and manage K-C’s patent estate. Job Responsibilities:

Owner of the patent searching process for K-C, including prioritize, balance, and coordinate K-C’s patent searching needs through an outside vendor, assist in the development of search process best practices and process improvements, and engage with internal customers to receive search requests and provide results.

Investigate, prepare documents, and coordinate with outside counsel on management of international patent applications (i.e., support three attorneys doing international office action responses).

Conduct legal research; draft and review memoranda and other documents and agreements related to patent transactions.

Own and manage a number of patent team processes that support internal clients, including Opposition and ROIA processes.

Continuous improvement and global patent support projects.

Interact with professionals outside the company including outside lawyers, customers, vendors, and government and non-government agencies and organizations.

Participate in the development and execution of a global IP CoE.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college/university in a technical field or Paralegal studies qualification (Associate’s degree or certification) in a technical field, or equivalent work experience.

Minimum 5 years of experience as a Paralegal in an in-house or law firm setting doing patent or technical field work, or equivalent relevant experience.

Computer research and investigation skills required.

The IT Strategic Business Partner – Latin America HR and Legal must utilize strong remote communications skills to provide partnership, direction and guidance to the K-C business community to ensure that business goals are met through the effective provision of technology solutions and services. The IT Business Partner (BP) must quickly build a partnership with LAO (Latin America Organization) leaders to develop and agree short to medium term strategic plans and capability roadmaps, ensuring alignment with K-C objectives. He/she acts as the trusted business advisor helping to manage through potentially sensitive situations, providing oversight and guidance to enable the successful delivery and acceptance of critical HR and Legal initiatives within the LAO region. The BP also actively markets and promotes IT services and ensures that the demand for these is managed and prioritized effectively.

The key to success is a broad knowledge of relevant technologies and trends and compelling communication to business leadership for how this enables future business capability. Another key to success is to be able to leverage the IT organization to drive successful delivery, considerate of local needs and global direction.

This role requires deep knowledge of industry, best practice, and business as well as the HR and Legal functional areas in order to be a trusted business advisor for the HR/Legal Leaders in the LAO Region. This role also provides strategic consulting for large, cross boundary and/or First-Of-A-Kind projects within HR/Legal.

The incumbent works within a global matrix organization and needs to influence and coordinate both regional and global stakeholders. This role requires significant interaction and collaboration with senior leaders related to the HR/Legal functions within LAO.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Builds and maintains strong relationships with the KC LAO Business leadership
• Acts as owner of IT for HR/Legal LAO and liaison between ITS teams and the business (‘One stop shop’ or ‘The face of ITS to the Business’).
• Is the single point of contact to the business and escalates in case of issues
• Partners at a strategic level with business stakeholders to communicate successes, demonstrate IT value and appropriate governance of IT activities
• Accountable for ITS communication with the respective leadership teams for all aspects of IT, incl. budget, Business demand & portfolio, strategies and priorities
• Oversees the development of business cases for LAO HR/Legal requiring IT-based solutions ensuring they deliver benefits, which are agreed and signed off by the key stakeholders prior to the project start.
• Participates as required in development of business strategic planning and ITS strategic planning

Basic Qualifications:
• A Bachelor (Master’s degree is preferred)

Basic Purpose:

  • Administer the company-wide reporting system (Code of Conduct Line) by reviewing, assigning and tracking reports received.  Serve as company liaison with hotline vendor (currently The Network).
  • Administer the investigations management system (current Case Management), ensuring integrity of data entered. Collaborate with internal investigators to include all data pertinent to investigations. Conduct orientation and refresher training on use of the system.
  • Compile weekly updates, monthly reports, and comprehensive quarterly reports relative to all cases reported up to the Compliance function. Identify reporting trends in functional and/or geographic areas and prepare summaries for review by the appropriate business leaders.  Prepare report files for external audit purposes.
  • Review completed Code of Conduct Line reports to ensure timely and thorough investigations have been conducted, appropriate communications with complaining parties have been made when possible, all allegations made have been addressed, and appropriate conclusions have been drawn.
  • May assist with and/or conduct periodic internal investigations and prepare written reports of investigations.

 

Relationships:

Internal:  Reports to Chief Investigator; provides support to all Compliance and Legal teams and Kimberly-Clark associates at all levels.

External:  Interact with vendor(s), business peers.
